Our Chapter
The Stamford Alumni Chapter was founded in 1975 and
chartered May 9, 1976. The ten chapter members were
Dr. Edward Allen, Joseph Arnette, Jr., George Evans,
Dr. Romele Howard, Jerome Lee, Dr. Roy Lee, Dr. Dennie
Simons, Thomas Smith, Ed Strayhorne, and Dr. Leroy
Vaughn. The first officers were:
- Ed Strayhorne - Polemarch
- Dr. Dennie Simons - Vice Polemarch
- Joseph Arnette, Jr. - Keeper of Records and
Exchequer
- Jerome Lee - Strategus
It should be noted that Dr. Dennie Simons is a 60
year member while Dr. Romele Howard is a 50 year
member.
The Stamford Alumni Chapter is located in Stamford,
CT and has a history of serving the youth of the
city of Stamford as well as
greater Fairfield County. Our community service programs
include providing SAT Workshops, college scholarships,
tutoring and mentoring,
Thanksgiving baskets and Toys for Tots. The current
membership, like the charter members, consist of
professional men who are doctors, dentists,
attorneys, clergy, certified public accountants,
educators, government officials, entrepreneurs, and
a host of other occupations and professions.
We are part of the Northeastern Province of Kappa
Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. As a member we contribute
to and support both national and
local charities. Additionally, the Chapter, through
its Guide Right programs and its Foundation, a 501
c 3 organization, sponsors an
annual Scholarship Dinner Dance in February and a
Golf Tournament in August. The funds from these two
events are use to used to provide
scholarships, tutoring, mentoring and conduct SAT
Workshops.
